Okay, so I tried to do that thing with the Rolex GMT-Master II, the “Pepsi” one with the red and blue. I wanted to see if I could make a really good fake, a high imitation, you know?
First, I got this watch that looked kinda like the real deal. It wasn’t a Rolex, just something that had the same vibe. Then I messed around with the bezel, that’s the ring around the watch face. The real Pepsi has this red and blue thing going on, and it’s supposed to do something cool under a UV light.
I spent a bunch of time trying to get the colors right. I used some paints, mixed them up, and kept testing until it looked close enough. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty good for a DIY job. I even used different shades of paint to get the red and blue just like the original.
Here’s what I did with the UV light:
- Got a UV flashlight.
- Shined it on the bezel in a dark room.
- Checked if the red part glowed all red like the real one does.
It took a few tries, but I finally got the bezel to glow the way I wanted. It wasn’t exactly like a real Rolex, but it was close enough to fool someone who didn’t know what to look for. I felt pretty good about how it turned out, considering I was just doing this for fun, just messing around with an old watch I had.
The whole thing was way harder than I thought it would be. I spent hours just on the bezel, trying to get the colors and the UV thing right. I gained a new level of respect for those who can make convincing fakes, I’ll tell you what. It’s way harder than it looks! But in the end, I was pretty stoked with my little project. It was a fun experiment, and I learned a lot about watches in the process, even if I wouldn’t know a real Rolex if it bit me.
My Tips for the Bezel
- Use good quality paints. Don’t cheap out here, or it’ll look like a kindergartner did it.
- Test the colors a lot. Mix them, try them out, and don’t settle until it’s right. I used a piece of white cardstock to test my colors.
- Be patient. This isn’t a quick project. It takes time and effort to get it right. I worked on this on and off for a couple of weeks.
It was a fun little project, you know? I got to see if I could make something that looked like a really expensive watch. And I kinda did! If you like tinkering with watches and stuff, give it a shot. It’s definitely a challenge.
