Remake Patek Philippe 6119R-001: Is it worth purchasing?

Alright, folks, gather around! Today, I’m going to share my recent adventure. I decided to try my hand at getting a remake Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. Yeah, you heard that right. Now, I’ve always been a watch guy, but Patek Philippe? That’s a whole other level. But a regular one costs an arm and a leg, so I thought, why not try one of these remakes?

First off, I started digging around. Lots of reading, lots of comparing. These remakes, they’re way cheaper than the real deal, but are they any good? I hit up a few specialty stores, read a ton of reviews online. Some folks swear by them, saying they’re a steal. Others? Not so much. They say you get what you pay for.

But I was determined. I picked out a store that seemed legit, had decent reviews. Took the plunge and ordered one. Waiting for it to arrive was a pain, I checked the tracking like every hour! When it finally showed up, I ripped open that package like a kid on Christmas morning.

First impression? It looked pretty good. I mean, it’s shiny, it’s got that classic Calatrava look. But I’m no expert, so I took it to a local watchmaker, a guy I trust. He took one look and said, “It’s not bad, for a remake.” He pointed out a few things, like the finish wasn’t as perfect as the real thing, and the movement, well, it’s not Patek Philippe quality. But, he said, it’s decent enough.

Here’s what I found out:

  • Appearance: Looks pretty darn close to the original. Unless you’re really inspecting it, you might not even notice.
  • Feel: It’s got some weight to it, feels solid on the wrist. Not as refined as a real Patek, but hey, it’s not bad.
  • Movement: This is where it’s different. It’s not the same smooth, accurate movement you’d get in a real one. The watchmaker said it’s a standard movement, nothing special. But it keeps time okay. Also, it has an increased power reserve of up to 65 hours.
  • Price: Obviously, way, way cheaper. Like, a fraction of the cost. That’s the main draw, right?

My Two Cents

So, is it worth it? Honestly, it depends. If you want a Patek Philippe, and you want the real deal, this ain’t it. But if you want something that looks like a Patek, and you don’t want to sell your house to get it, this could be a good option. It’s like having a fancy-looking watch without the crazy price tag.

Would I wear it every day? Probably not. It’s not something I’d want to bang around. But for special occasions, sure, why not? It’s a conversation starter, that’s for sure.

At the end of the day, I’m not regretting it. It was an experience, and I got a nice-looking watch out of it. Plus, I didn’t have to remortgage my house. Would I do it again? Maybe. But I’d probably do even more research next time, maybe try a different model. You live and you learn, right?

And who knows, maybe someday I’ll get my hands on a real Patek Philippe. But until then, this little remake will do just fine. Oh, one last thing I found out. I heard that a real Patek Philippe is a good investment. The watch can keep its value or maybe get more valuable later. That’s neat, huh? But for me, for now, this is good enough.

You might think, “Why not just save up for the real thing?” Well, that’s like saying, “Why buy a burger when you can buy a steak?” Sure, the steak is better, but sometimes you just want a burger, you know? And sometimes, your wallet just says “burger.”

So yeah, that’s my story. Hope you found it helpful. Or at least entertaining. Catch you later!
