Okay, so I saw this PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Mini-Bag and I thought, “I gotta have it!” It’s a remake of a classic, and you know I’m all about that vintage vibe. But, man, these things are pricey! So, I figured, why not try to remake it myself? Challenge accepted!
First, I needed to find some materials. This bag is made of something called “Re-Nylon,” which I guess is some kind of fancy, recycled nylon. I went to a bunch of fabric stores in my town, looking for something similar. I found a black, textured nylon that felt pretty close to the original. It wasn’t exactly the same, but hey, close enough! It even had that cool, padded look with some stitching on it.
Next up, the shape. I took a ton of pictures of the original bag online, from every possible angle. I even found some measurements somewhere, which was super helpful. Then, I grabbed some paper and started sketching out a pattern. It took a few tries, but I finally got something that looked like the right shape and size.
After that, I cut out the pattern from my nylon fabric. I had to be super careful here, ’cause you only get one shot with this stuff! I pinned the pieces together, just to get a feel for how it would look. It was starting to resemble the real thing! That’s what I wanted to make sure.
Then came the sewing. I’m not exactly a pro with a sewing machine, but I know the basics. I used a black thread that matched the fabric and went to work. I started with the main body of the bag, then added the sides and bottom. It wasn’t perfect, but I was actually pretty proud of how it was turning out. This is the first time for me to try this kind of thing.
The trickiest part was the chain strap. I couldn’t find an exact match for the one on the original bag, but I found a silver chain that looked pretty good. I attached it to the bag using some metal rings. It wasn’t easy, but I managed to get it done.
- Find some black nylon that looks like “Re-Nylon”
- Draw a pattern based on pictures of the bag
- Cut the fabric very, very carefully
- Sew the pieces together like a sewing pro
- Find a chain and attach it. This is the hardest part, I guess.
Finally, I added a little black lining inside. I know, it’s not exactly like the original, but it added a nice finishing touch. And guess what? It actually looked like a bag! Not a perfect replica, but definitely inspired by the PRADA Re-Edition 1995. I was super happy with myself and felt like a professional designer.
