Alright, so I got this idea to remake a PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. Sounds fancy, right? But really, it’s just a classic-style purse. I saw some folks carrying around some pretty flimsy bags, and I thought, “I can do better than that.”
First, I did some digging around about this bag. I found out it’s made of something called “Saffiano” leather. Turns out, it’s genuine leather that’s been treated and embossed. Not like that full-grain stuff, which can be chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned, whatever that means. I also learned that the thickness of the leather depends on what it’s used for and what animal it comes from. Interesting, huh?
Then, I started looking at the bag itself. It’s got this enamel triangle logo, two rolled top handles, and an adjustable handle wrap. Plus, there’s an adjustable detachable shoulder strap. It’s an open-top bag with two zip-fastening. So, I made a note of all these details.
Next, I went searching for materials. I needed that Saffiano leather. Let me tell you, finding the right stuff wasn’t easy. I checked a bunch of places, both online and some local shops I know. Finally, I found some that looked and felt just right.
Once I had the leather, I started working on the bag. I cut the leather according to the measurements I took from pictures and descriptions of the original bag. Then, I started stitching. It took some time, and my fingers were sore, but I kept at it. I wanted to make sure every stitch was strong and neat. I remembered that saying, “measure twice, cut once”. It’s true, you know.
- I added the rolled top handles.
- I attached the adjustable handle wrap.
- I fixed the adjustable detachable shoulder strap.
- I even managed to make a replica of that enamel triangle logo. It was tough, but I think it turned out pretty good.
After a lot of work, the bag was finally done. It looked pretty close to the original, if I do say so myself. It’s sturdy, it’s got that classic look, and I reckon it’ll last a good long while. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot about leather and bag making.
Now, I’ve got a fine-looking bag that didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. And I made it myself, which is something I’m pretty proud of. This whole thing, it was quite the adventure. But you know what? I think I might just try my hand at another one soon.
