Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing watch for a while. It’s not the real deal, of course, but it looked pretty darn close. A friend mentioned he knew a guy, so I reached out to him to see what the deal was.
He told me it’s like, part Seamaster, part Speedmaster, all mixed into one. Sounds kinda cool, right? So I asked him how to get one, and he gave me a few names, some places online where people sell these things. Not OMEGA stores, mind you, more like back-alley type stuff.
Spent a good chunk of the day looking through these websites. Man, it’s a jungle out there! So many different versions, different prices. Hard to know what’s what. They all looked pretty good in the pictures, but you never know until you see it in person. Finally, I settled on one that looked decent and wasn’t too pricey.
Paid for it, and then the waiting game began. Took about a week or so, which felt like forever. When the package finally arrived, I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas morning.
First impression? Not bad. It’s got some weight to it, feels solid. Checked out the little dials and the markings on the bezel – they seem to be in the right place, as far as I can tell. I’m no watch expert, though.
The Details
- Wound it up, and it started ticking. So far, so good.
- Put it on my wrist, and it fit pretty comfortably. The bracelet feels okay, not super high quality, but not terrible either.
- Wore it around for a few days, and it kept time just fine. No problems there.
Now, I know it’s not a genuine OMEGA. If you go to a real OMEGA store, they give you a fancy card and the whole nine yards. This one didn’t come with any of that. But, for what I paid, I’m pretty happy with it. It looks good, it works, and it didn’t break the bank.
It seems pretty tough, too. I’m not planning on climbing Mount Everest with it or anything, but it feels like it can handle everyday life. People have said that these Speedmasters are a good investment. Don’t know about this one, but hey, it’s a cool-looking watch. I guess time will tell, literally! Overall, I’d say it was a pretty good experience. Not perfect, but hey, what is?
