Okay, so the other day I got this wild idea to try and remake a PRADA bag. Not just any PRADA bag, but the big one, the Large Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. I mean, that bag is a classic, right? Everyone knows it. It is a classic, and it is pretty nice. So I thought, why not give it a shot?
First off, I had to get the leather. Man, finding the right kind of leather was a real pain. I went to a couple of stores in my area, I finally found this one shop that had something that looked pretty close to the Saffiano leather PRADA uses. It wasn’t cheap, but hey, I was committed at this point.
Next up, I needed the right tools. I already had some basic stuff, like needles and thread, but I needed some specialized tools too, you know, for cutting the leather precisely and punching those little holes. So, I ordered a bunch of stuff online. While I was waiting for it to arrive, I studied the design of the bag.
Study the Bag Design
- Looked at the pictures of the bag.
- Counted the pockets.
- Noticed the stitching.
I spent hours just staring at pictures of the Galleria bag. It’s got this really simple, but kind of nice look. And those handles, they looked tough to make. But I was determined. I sketched out the design a few times, trying to get all the details right.
Once my tools arrived, it was time to get to work. I started by cutting out the leather. That was nerve-wracking, I won’t lie. One wrong cut and I’d have to start all over. Luckily, I managed to cut out all the pieces without messing up too badly. Then came the stitching. Oh boy, the stitching. It took forever! My fingers were sore, and I messed up a few times, had to rip out the stitches and start over. It was a mess. But, slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. I put on the handles, that was another challenge. But I got them on there.
After what felt like ages, I finally finished the bag. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. There were some wonky stitches, and the shape wasn’t exactly like the real PRADA one. But you know what? I made it. I actually made a bag that looked kind of like a PRADA Galleria. It was a pretty cool feeling. I learned a lot from the experience and also I got a bag to show off.
