Alright, guys, so I’ve been wanting to remake this PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while now. It’s a real classic, you know? They first came out with it in 2007, and it’s still super popular. I guess you could say it’s like a future heirloom or something.
So, I started by doing some research. I needed to find out what kind of leather they use. Turns out, it’s called Saffiano leather. It’s genuine leather, but it’s been treated and embossed, so it doesn’t get that worn-in look like full-grain leather. And the thickness of it can change depending on what it’s used for, and which animal hide they use. Chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned for Full-grain leather. For Saffiano, it will not develop a patina over time.
Next, I had to figure out where to get it. I checked out a few places, even saw a used black one that looked pretty good. I also looked at some online stores. But honestly, I wanted to get it from somewhere reliable.
Then I started comparing prices. I mean, if I’m gonna remake a bag, I want to make sure I’m not overspending. I saw some pretty big differences in price, so that was a big help. I made a list, here is what I got:
-
Official PRADA Store: Always a solid choice, but usually the most expensive.
-
Other Retailers: Found some decent deals, but I was worried about authenticity.
-
Secondhand Market: Saw that used black one I mentioned, but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.
After all that, I finally decided to go for it. I found a pretty good deal. Because I felt like it was the best balance of price and trustworthiness. And it’s worth buying.
When the bag finally came, I was so excited! It looked even better in person. The leather felt amazing, and the craftsmanship was top-notch. I was really happy with my purchase. I spent a whole afternoon just admiring it, checking out all the details. They really thought of everything with this design.
What I did next?
I started by carefully taking it apart. I wanted to see exactly how it was put together, what materials they used for the inside, the stitching, everything. I took tons of photos and notes along the way. Then, using the original as a template, I started cutting out the new Saffiano leather. This was the most nerve-wracking part, obviously. One wrong cut and I’d have to start all over. Luckily, it went smoothly.
Next came the stitching. This is where all those years of watching my grandma sew really paid off. Slow and steady, I started putting the pieces together. It took a few days, but seeing the bag take shape was the best feeling.
Finally, after a lot of work, it was done! My very own remade PRADA Galleria bag. It’s not exactly like the original, but I’m super proud of it. And the best part? It was way cheaper than buying a new one! Maybe I’ll try a different color next time, or even a different style. The possibilities are endless!
