Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake this YSL June Box Bag for a while now. It’s such a classic, you know? I finally got around to doing it, and let me tell you, it was a journey. But a fun one! I started by looking at a bunch of pictures of the original bag online.
The first thing I did was try to find the right kind of leather. This wasn’t easy. I went to a few different stores, feeling up all the leather samples like some kind of weirdo. Eventually, I found one that I thought was a pretty good match – soft, but still had that structure, you know?
Then came the cutting. I made a pattern based on the pictures I’d been studying, and carefully cut out all the pieces. I was sweating bullets, not gonna lie. One wrong cut and you’re screwed! Luckily, it all went smoothly.
Next, I started putting the bag together. I’ve been practicing sewing and I thought this time I would give it a try with needle and thread. This part was tricky, especially around the curves. I had to use a ton of those little clips to hold everything in place while I stitched. My fingers were definitely sore after that.
- Stitching the lining was a whole other adventure.
- I decided to go with a nice, smooth fabric.
- Getting it to fit just right inside the bag took some finagling, but I managed it.
The hardware was another challenge. The original bag has these really specific zippers and clasps. I tried for a long time and still couldn’t find anything that matched exactly. Then, one day I am shopping at a store nearby, I was amazed that I found some that were pretty darn close.
Assembling!
Putting the hardware on the bag was nerve-wracking. It wasn’t too easy to deal with the small rivets. But hey, I got it done! I was so proud of myself when I finally finished. I mean, it’s not perfect. There are a few little imperfections here and there. But overall, I think it turned out pretty great! It looks a lot like the original YSL bag, which is all I wanted.
This whole experience taught me a lot about bag-making, and about patience! It’s definitely not something you can rush. But it’s so satisfying to create something with your own two hands, you know?
Anyway, that’s my story of remaking the YSL June Box Bag. Hope you enjoyed my little adventure. Maybe it’ll inspire you to try something new, too!
