Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag online for a while now. It’s a beauty, but the price tag? Ouch. But I thought, “Why not try to remake it?” I mean, I’ve done some leatherwork before, nothing too fancy, but I was up for the challenge. So I started.
First things first, I needed to find some decent leather. I hit up a few online stores, checking out different kinds of full-grain leather. You know, there’s this chrome-tanned and vegetable-tanned stuff. And the thickness? It’s different depending on what you’re making. Eventually, I found this Saffiano leather, which is real leather that’s been treated and stamped. I read that it doesn’t get that aged look over time, which is fine by me.
Then I spent hours, and I mean hours, looking at pictures of the bag online. I needed to get the measurements right, you know? I even went to a store that had the actual bag, just to get a feel for it, touch it, and secretly take some measurements. They probably thought I was crazy, but oh well.
- I sketched out the design, piece by piece.
- Made some cardboard cutouts to get the shape right.
- Carefully cut the leather, trying not to mess it up.
Next up, the hardware. This was tricky. I wanted that gold-tone look, just like the real Prada bag. Scoured the internet for some decent buckles, zippers, and that little triangle logo thingy. Found some that were pretty close, not perfect, but close enough.
Sewing it all together was a whole other beast. I used my old sewing machine, which is definitely not made for leather, but I made it work. Let me tell you, there were a lot of broken needles and some not-so-nice words said during this process. But hey, I kept at it.
The inside of the bag needed a lining, so I used some soft fabric I had lying around. I even managed to sew in a little pocket with a zipper, just like the original. Felt pretty proud of that, not gonna lie.
The Result
After days of work, a lot of sweat, and maybe a few tears, I finally finished my remake of the Prada Galleria Saffiano bag. It’s not an exact replica, of course. There are some imperfections, the stitching isn’t as neat, and the leather is probably not as high-quality. But you know what? I made it! And I’m pretty darn proud of myself. It’s a decent-looking bag, and it definitely scratches that itch I had for the real thing, without breaking the bank. Mission accomplished!
